01 / VARIETY PORTRAIT

Small in stature.
Generous with flowers.

Zepeti® is the trade name of the Meilland cultivar ‘Meibenbino’. Small, unscented red flowers appear on a compact plant with glossy, dark green foliage.

FloraSelf is the brand under which I bought the plants at HORNBACH; Meilland is the breeder of the variety.

02 / PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Zepeti in my garden
in Bran.

BRAN · APPROXIMATELY 770 M

I have bushes and a small standard, approximately 60–70 cm tall. I bought them in pots at HORNBACH, under the FloraSelf brand.

They have proved very resilient in my garden. They flower abundantly and continuously, with small, unscented blooms. I appreciate the colour they keep in the garden and their generous number of flowers.

They still had flowers on 1 November 2026, after almost two weeks of rain and nine nights below freezing. They are among the roses still flowering at the end of this season.

These notes describe my plants. The height of the standard is my own observation; the bush height in the quick facts comes from the cultivar description.

03 / TWO FORMS

A low bush or a small standard?

The bush form

Retains the cultivar’s small, compact habit. It suits the front of a border or a container with good drainage. The approximate cultivar height refers to this form.

The standard form

Has a crown raised on a stem, like a small tree. Total height depends on the stem onto which it is grafted and on the crown. Mine is approximately 60–70 cm tall; this is not a standard size for every plant sold in this form.

The standard needs a firm stake and regular checks of its ties. In severe frost, the upper graft union needs attention: earthing up the base does not protect the grafted crown.

04 / CARE

Pointers for a long flowering season.

LIGHT AND SOIL

Sun and good drainage

Choose a sunny spot and soil that retains some moisture without standing water. Shelter from wind also matters for standards. Avoid planting in frozen or waterlogged ground.

WATER AND FEEDING

Keep an eye on pots

Water at the base, especially in dry spells and after planting. If the plant stays in a pot, check moisture and drainage more often. In spring, apply a rose fertiliser according to its label.

PRUNING

Keep the compact shape

Carry out maintenance pruning in late winter or spring, according to local weather. Remove dead or damaged wood and balance the branches. On a standard, work on the crown while keeping its supporting stem.

HEALTH

Resilient, with regular checks

Meilland reports very good tolerance of powdery mildew and black spot. This does not rule out problems in a difficult season. Check the leaves, allow air between plants and collect fallen diseased foliage.

THE STANDARD IN WINTER

Protect the crown too

Check the stake and ties before winter. During severe frost, protect the crown and graft union with breathable horticultural fleece, without binding the branches tightly. If it is in a pot, protect the container too and choose a sheltered position.

NEXT SEASON

What I want to record

I want to note the first and last flowers, the height of the bushes and how both forms overwinter. The standard and bushes deserve separate observations, even though their flowers belong to the same cultivar.

General care guidance: RHS — growing roses and preventing winter damage. For standards: protecting the graft union.

Red Zepeti flowers at different stages of opening, among glossy leaves.
Zepeti — small, red, unscented flowers.

FLOWER DETAIL

Bright red,
in small flowers.

Flowers and buds gather above the foliage. For me, Zepeti’s charm lies in its abundant, continuous flowering: new blooms keep appearing, even though each is small.
